This collection of photos is a very significant in a way for me. It’s not as big of a collection as I wanted it to be, to be honest it’s only a fraction of how many photos I wanted it to contain. But in the end I’m very proud of it and what it represents.
This summer among attending the Helsinki Pride 2018 I wanted to also make a collection out of the event. I’m so interested in people and different stories and Pride in a way is very close thing to me; being part of the LGBTQ+ community too and just because it’s such a wonderful thing.
So my thoughts with this collection was to show the different people of the Pride, the different faces and the warmth that the whole event has. How wonderful it is that in this event you can just be yourself and feel accepted. And to show how warm and happy and wonderful the people are. How LGBTQ+ community contains people like everyone else.
The LGBTQ+ community still is fighting for equal rights all over the world and I think, as everyone else representing the community, it’s nuts. Everyone should be able to be who they are without feeling the pressure or without feeling scared for not being accepted or being kicked out of home or even getting bullied or even worse. There shouldn’t be laws that deny us the right to love who we want to love or to be who we want to be and having the process to be who we are.
People shouldn’t take so seriously about men kissing men and women kissing women and young kids figuring out that maybe being straight isn’t who they are.
It’s just love and self discovery, nothing more and nothing less. We all should be able to have it without being afraid.
